Online CPE Courses for Professionals and Their Assistants
Posted on October 10, 2011There are those who go to law school – and so they wind up in a law firm, even if not as attorneys. That’s when the real world hits ’em, presenting a very different picture of the occupation than what they’d come to expect from their studies. It isn’t a matter of debating right and wrong then, but which rule applies where and when. And because the rules can change, lawyers, like other professionals, will have to take online CPE courses to stay on top of them. And so there will never be, as the old saying goes, rest for the guilty!
Indeed, on-going schoolin’ (the “CPE” in “online CPE courses” stands for “continuing professional education”) is required for those who wish to stay in medicine, accounting, or the law. But these days those that serve alongside them may also be subjected to such educational standards.
Learning in this manner, as a term like “online CPE courses” would suggest, is typically done at the person’s own pace, usually at home through a website. Other than completing a small amount of coursework within a large amount of time, it’s a veritable free-for-all. A typical case would be for a professional or paraprofessional to earn three credits in two years’ time, oftentimes with no strict stipulation as to the subject areas that must be pursued. A nurse may choose to focus on patient-side topics instead of strictly scientific ones having to do with biochemical facts, for example.
For those that aspire to the professions, continuing education will be just another fact of life, thanks to the ever increasing level of complexity that new developments bring to bear on the field. Thankfully, it’s all available online now, making for unprecedented convenience!
